Market Choice

I find myself in an interesting position now, and I suspect my Turtleduck compatriots are feeling much the same.

Never before have I really thought about where a story will end up while I’m still in the planning or writing stages of a project.  It’s always been “I’ll write this, and worry about what I’m going to do with it later.”

But now I find myself subconsciously thinking about publishing routes while I’m still fairly early in the process.  I’m not sure if this is because I’m much further in the process than I used to be, or if it’s because I have responsibility to Turtleduck Press, or if it’s because I have choices.

We’ve made it no secret that Turtleduck Press is only one of our paths forward.  All members are also pursuing other methods of publishing.  Variety!  I find myself mentally dividing my projects, making a list of what I’ll submit here first versus what I will send elsewhere.

It’s somewhat disconcerting, and I’m not sure why.  Perhaps it’s because things are so much more real now.  I have products out there.  This has really happened.

As time goes on, I’m more and more proud of what we’re doing here.  And the way things are going, we’re going to have amazing stories and poetry to bring you for a long time to come.

  1. I actually have to keep reminding myself that I’m still planning on pursuing traditional publishing. I’m just having so much FUN with this process!
