Soundtracks of My Life

Have you ever thought about if your life was set to music, what would that music be? Or if your life had a theme song?

I feel kinda unhinged talking about it, but things for me personally have been a bit weird lately, and I got thinking about it today. What songs would I choose and why?

Theme song: War of Change by Thousand Foot Krutch. My Google-fu says this band is a Christian band, but you wouldn’t know it. They’re hard rock, and this song impressed me so much that I went and bought the entire album. These lyrics specifically speak to me:

Wait, it’s just about break/ it’s more than I can take/ everything’s about to change
I feel it in my veins / it’s not going away / everything’s about to change

(I love this video because of all the b&w. But I’m not sure what they’re doing with all the dust and light bulbs.)

Adam Lambert’s “Ghost Town” deserves a mention. He’s said that the meaning behind the song (for him, at least) is “Life sucks. Let’s dance!” and if you watch the video, there’s a ton of dancing. (I love all things dance). And kudos to him for more b&w!

This next one has a special place in my heart. It’s from Queensryche’s first album with their new singer, Todd La Torre, and probably my favorite song off it. It’s called “In This Light.” (This is a live video, as there is no official music video, so please forgive the quality. Also? Todd La Torre I believe was a drummer before he was a singer, and you can see that.)

Why is this one of my picks? Well, the lyrics, once again, speak to me:

I’ll break the chains for you / only to remind me / no preservation/ or paradise

Next up is REM’s “Leave” from their 1996 album “New Adventures in Hi-Fi.” I have a lot of memories of this song, because my sister and I used to commute to college every day together in the late 90s and this was one of the albums we played all the time. The lyrics “Nothing could bring me closer/ nothing can bring me near / where is the road I’ve followed? To leave? ” still resonate with me today. (No, I’m not going anywhere!). I was going to use “Everybody Hurts” but everyone knows that song. This one’s a bit less well known, but it’s awesome. This was the best live version I could find. The album version is MAGNIFICENT. (And I’m not sure about Michael Stipe’s make up…)

Finally, I have a tribute to Chris Cornell here with “Hunger Strike” by Temple of the Dog, a band he was in (might have been a side project? I’m not sure. Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam is also in there). I was never a grunge fan, but some bands were cool, and I really love this song. (And no, I am not going hungry, thankyouverymuch). I was sad to learn of Chris Cornell’s passing, and wish him peace, wherever he is now.

One more bonus! The Sound of Silence, as covered by Disturbed, which is my newest release, Ever Touched’s, theme song.

So now it’s your turn. Tell me what song or songs would be your soundtrack. πŸ˜€

  1. ohhh eeemmm geee, Disturbed’s “Sound of Silence.” I’ve been known to listen to it over and over and over.

Both theme song and inspiration for me would probably be Adam Lambert’s “Time for Miracles.” It’s not one of his favorites, and it’s from the soundtrack of a movie I never saw (and heard wasn’t great) but I do love that song.

  2. Yep, I’ve done that too with The Sound of Silence. πŸ™‚

Ooh, I love Time for Miracles. πŸ™‚
