(Phone) Pictures in an Exhibition(ish)

One of the main reasons I looked at the house that I now own was, as the saying goes, location, location, location. It’s very close to one of the largest parks in the city, the park where the zoo is. I love both the zoo and the park, and love being able to visit either or both after a five-to-ten-minute walk. (It’s also really nice to be one long walk through a lovely park and then a pretty, low-traffic neighborhood from a Starbucks. Love coffee. Love.) My last home was also next to a park, and just like then, now that I’m getting out and being more active, the park is a big draw. If you’re thinking I’m about to throw a bunch of phone-camera pics at you, give yourself a prize. NOTE —->>> Do not pet the palo verde tree, or at least be very careful. (you don’t pet trees? Oh, I guess that’s…maybe just a me thing?) I love our zoo. When I can, I maintain a membership to support it. It is a nice little zoo, easily browsed in a couple hours, and they work hard and do well at taking care of the animals and presenting lots of education on conservation. And currently, baby meerkats! What’s not to love? They’ve been trying to expand the zoo for a while now, to renovate and give more of the animals a better habitat. A few years back, they put it on the ballot, and people voted for it!…

Too Serious, Let’s Have Fun

So, things have gotten Real. Everything’s shut down, people are worried about not having toilet paper, no one’s going anywhere…it’s the apocalypse! (Whelp, I spelled that wrong, booo.) I’m sure someday we’ll all have a chuckle about this, but right now, being in the thick of things…not so much. I’ve been anxious every day. I imagine you all are too, or in some form of emotional distress. So I’ve decided to quit with the seriousness and go for the fun. Today is St. Patrick’s Day. If I drank, I’d definitely pour myself a glass of Bailey’s Irish Cream and sing an Irish Drinking song or two. In case you hate Who Line is it Anyway, here are some pretty and cute pictures I got off Pixabay to hopefully calm your distress. Also, some friends and I got together and put together a little book fair thing for solidarity during this trying time — all books are FREE. This is going on till 3/20, so grab those books while you can! BIG HONKING LINK HERE BECAUSE I CAN’T DOWNLOAD THE IMAGE FILE LOL So how does that make you feel? Hopefully better! Now prepare some comfort foods, grab some wine (or soda if you don’t drink), and enjoy the company of your favorite humans. And non-humans. Cats, dogs, hamsters…you get the idea. 😉 And when you’re done eating and drinking and making merry, cuddle your beloveds close. We’re going to get through this.

Adventures in Pencil

Hello! So, last month I talked about the drawing class I was taking. It’s over now, and I enjoyed it, though it wasn’t quite what I wanted, if such a thing even exists. But I thought I’d share the end results with you. Here’s our main project, the Escher hand: You can see the remains of the grid. And my “interesting” shading. I was much faster than everyone else (probably because I couldn’t be bothered to be accurate with my shading) so I finished this after three classes. The last class, one of the other people had also finished his drawing (he was working on it at home! lucky bastard has grown children who do not live at home) so he brought along a picture of some aspens he’d taken. We used the grid method on it again. This took me about 3/4 of the class. Notice, again, my lack of patience with a gazillion little details and the switch to being more stylistic than realistic. (Though I do like the end product.) And then, because I figured I should probably draw in drawing class, I found a photo of a grumpy owl on the Internet and started drawing that. (Without a grid, though.) Didn’t get terribly far, obviously, and haven’t worked on it since. I ran into another woman from the drawing class the day after the last class and she asked if I’d finished it yet. >_> My mother was thrilled that I was taking a drawing class…
