All Hail October, Greatest Month of the Year

Friends, I love October. There are so many lovely and wonderful things about it. Summer’s heat finally breaks. The leaves turn beautiful, vibrant colors. It becomes okay to break out your boots and sweaters. There’s cocoa and roaring fires. There’s Halloween. And there’s the promise of magic in the air, in the crisp breeze, in the crunching leaves.

Also, my birthday is in October.

Of course, that’s not to say that other months don’t have nice things going for them. There’s something about having a late dinner on your deck in the middle of August, or sitting with your family in November or December. June has flowers and March has the first hints of spring.

But there’s something about October that seems…more special. And maybe it is because it’s my birthday month. Maybe it’s twisted intricately into my soul.

What do you think about that, guys? Is your favorite month/season the same as the one you were born in? I’m truly interested (and possibly getting story ideas).

Every year I get excited for October. Poor September gets shafted every year because I’m too busy waiting for October, and then November’s always a bit sad because October is over. (Though November has other nice things going for it, and then I invariably remember I haven’t started my Christmas shopping and get distracted.)

But how can you not love it? How can you not love the cool nip of autumn, the promise of cozy evenings and the whisper of the leaves on the wind?

So, I argue that October is the best of all months. Are you with me, friends? (If not, feel free to submit counterarguments. But be aware that there may be mocking.)

  1. I absolutely love October, too. My first wedding was in October for that reason.

  2. I’m with you…almost. My favourite month is September, which, haha, happens to be my birthday month (and the month I got married in)! I’m also guessing that September in Ontario roughly equals October in Colorado in terms of weather, so all of your reasons still apply. Plus I’m quite happy in the early part of October as long as the weather stays warmish and the leaves stay lovely!

  3. I love October! But it makes me homesick. Back home it’s chill air and turning leaves and apple cider. Here it gets less unbearably hot.

Also it flies too darn fast. How is it half gone already?
