Year of No Fear: Final Progress Report

Here we are with my final progress report for my Year of No Fear.  It has been a crazy year, and I did accomplish a lot.  But not everything on my list, unfortunately.  So here’s the run down:

Ice skating – My first time was 1/4/14, and I didn’t fall!  Hubby and I managed to get out another two times, plus one last Saturday, 12/13/14.  We are planning on doing more after Grave Touched is turned in.

Erotica – Awaken Me, a novella, started 5/4/14. 7k in with plans to continue.

Poetry – Wrote poem #1 on 4/27/14. Edited 2 drafts on 5/7/14. Poem #2 written 5/8/14. 2 poems written 5/15/14, 3 poems written 5/16/14 (one haiku!) 3 poems written on 5/22/14 about a subject I haven’t been able to write about for 5 years. Plans to write 1 poem/week minimum in 2015.

Diet – 6/26/14 – Instituted a new rule: 1 low-fat meal per week to start, and I’d like to work my way up to at least 2 a week. Doing well with eating more veggies. The stress eating however continues to be a problem.  Lost a few pounds.  Going to make this a priority in 2015.

Dye my hair – Talked about it a lot.  Never got done.  #sadface

Photography – Photo shoot #1 done 5/10/14 (Church/Low light/HDR). Shoot #2 6/21/14 (Clinton River Park – Got some beautiful color/b&w/sepia pics of the bridge and various other things. Three more shoots at 3 camping trips.  Plans to reopen Darkroom in 2015.

Darkroom Revival – NEW for 2015 – Have something major done by birthday (3/27/15) – In progress!

Self-portraits – In progress. Have taken a selfie (normal, not artsy so I still have a way to go yet!) almost every day of April. Getting closer. Plans to revive this as well in 2015.

New places – Clinton River Park on 6/21/14; Algonac State Park in October (I’m told that we went there to camp when I was a kid, but I don’t remember it, so it counts!)

Gratitude – Happy things: I’m in fairly good health and I’m able-bodied; I have my creativity, friends, and family; I have a home and food on the table; I’m not dying; I am able to see, hear, and feel; I’m not alone in life, I have an awesome support system; I have writing; I have photography. 6/25/14: Started a Gratitude Journal with the goal of writing down three things I’m grateful for every day. http://soulfearless.wordpress.com  Could not keep up online journal; have been trying to think of 3 things before bed

Second opinion on eye – 11/8/14 Update: Currently not seeking 2nd opinion from a neurologist. I’m exploring another angle, that something might be wrong with the eye itself, and I have an appointment to discuss this with my eye doctor this Sunday 11/9. Was not what I thought; back to neurologist in 2015.

Spontaneous – I tried to be, especially in situations where I normally wouldn’t.  Slowly working on this one.  Tough for a planner!

Submit something to traditional publisher- not yet, but I have TWO revisions planned for books I want to publish traditionally.

Rewrite/revision of Grave Touched – on track to submit 1/1/15.

So, not too bad, huh?  I will be continuing with the Year of No Fear in 2015, and I may have a few new things to add to my list.

Thank you for sharing this experience with me.  It has been a great year, and I really feel like I’ve conquered some of my fears.  In some ways, I can’t even believe this year is over.  It went by SO fast!

To all our readers, have a wonderful, fun-filled, awesome holiday and a wonderful New Year! And if you’d like to join me on my #nofear journey, simply create a blog, put together your list, and try like hell to conquer each and every fear.  It has been an amazing experience so far, one I will remember for years to come.

  1. Not too bad at all!

As for me, I’ve had one heck of a difficult year–don’t even remember what I put on my list. Maybe next year will go a little easier on me and I can come back to it.

  2. It’s been rough for me, too. I hope you can join in 2015. 😉

    Cheers,
    Erin
