Buh-bye, Springing Forward and Falling Back!

Just in case you’re wondering, Kit and I switched blog slots this month, so you’re getting me a week early. Lucky you! 🙂

I just found out that the Senate passed a bill to make Daylight Saving Time permanent. By unaminious consent. I found that interesting. They all agreed on this. Everyone.

It still needs to go through the House and to President Biden, so we’re not quite there yet, but I am optimistic.

I’ve said for years — years — that this crap needs to stop. It’s antiquated and from a time long past (1918 apparently). To save energy. But the world was so different then, right? Now…I don’t know about you, but every time we change, no matter which direction, it takes me about two weeks to adjust. I’m irritable, basically jet-lagged for all intents and purposes, and I’m completely out of sorts. My body even rebels. I used to end up in fibro flares, too. Back when I was a kid, and there was no internet to quickly check what date we were changing (yeah, imagine that), we’d end up either early or late for church on Sunday because we never knew. Now, with my Esperanto study? My friend just moved back to the States. So, we have time zones to consider and DST. Because where he lived previously, they hadn’t changed yet, but where he is now, they did, and so did we, and they were different. So this afternoon, we’re sitting here trying to puzzle out when we’re meeting because like, we didn’t freaking know! (Spoiler alert: We did figure it out. He’s the smarter one of us. Thankfully one of us has a working brain).

To me, it just didn’t make sense anymore to continue something that really isn’t needed any longer. We changed it up several years ago, for reasons I don’t even know (or care to know) which once again, threw everything into chaos — I remember trying to set up my DVR to tape a show I watched every day (General Hospital) and having to switch it to the “new” DST settings. What a pain that was. And remembering? This past week, we Turtleduckers had a meeting, and we were setting up our next meeting, and because we’re all in different parts of the country, we have to be mindful of time zones…and DST. Someone mentioned we were switching this past weekend, and I was like, “Huh? We’re switching this weekend?” I’d known it was coming, but not so soon! I was really embarrassed. But in my defense, I’ve literally spent the last month doing nothing but working, sleeping, and eating, so I just don’t know anything that’s going on. This is my busy period, and it’s nuts during that time.

So, screw this crap, I say! People say, more sunlight for summer! Less darkness! To that I say, well, if you’re into folicking in the sun maybe. I dunno. I spend literally all my time indoors currently, so it’s hard to say. I’m always working. With COVID? I don’t go anywhere, and I don’t see that ending anytime soon, so I’m very ambivalent about the sun. Even prior to all of this, I was never a summer, outdoorsy person. Sun and hot weather kills my body. The only thing I really enjoy outdoors is camping.

So, in summary, I am really excited about this bill and I am crossing my fingers and toes that it goes through. We need to set free from this antiquated, relic of a thing and be brought into the modern age. Let’s be modern and get rid of springing forward and falling back and jet lag and all the damn confusion! I am done.

Are you?

Let me know in comments. And if you disagree…stick it where the sun don’t shine. 😉

(Just kidding. That was like, the perfect ending. Of course you’re entitled to your own opinion. Really!).
