Three Love Poems

Hi, this is Erin. For this month’s Freebie, I am sharing three poems from my Bad Poetry Project. 🙂 Hope you enjoy.

STARDUST AND SONG

The scaffolding of my hope may never reach
the height of my prayers
Still I climb
Still I search
Still I listen
for the whisper, the echo, your voice
lost in thunderclouds
your song,
my forever
your place
a carving inside my heart
etched with words I wrap around myself
when I cannot breathe
You breathe for me,
sustenance
when the loneliness punches
a hole in my heart,
you hold me, rock me,
bring me back to myself.

You’re my center, my True North, my light
to guide me home
We are stardust and song,
we are eternal.

IN THE EDGES OF DREAMS

You stood on stage, an angel
wrapped in hues of red
When you sang, it forged a connection between us
ever bright
past to present
memory to memory
aching soul to aching soul

You touched my hand,
a brush of fingers,
but in that moment, I saw
you were the missing part of me
the part that called to me in the edges of dreams
the part that whispered to me in the night
the part I lost in the shadow of time—
Your voice soothed my tattered edges

We weren’t alone anymore
wrapped around each other in pure bliss,
joined in this place
made of starlight and promises

And then I awoke with the dawn—

To think I’d never feel your lips on mine
or taste the sweetness of your words
to think I’d never see
how your eyes captured mine
how our life together unfolded
years falling into years
To think I’d never hear your voice
whisper perfect, loving words
To think I’d never hear forever in your song

I see you on every street corner
waiting for the light to change, smoking a cigarette,
blowing smoke rings into the crisp autumn air

I see your ghost in every reflection
gazing at me with those soulful eyes
a lifetime held within

You are the shadow that follows me
glowing, your wings unfurled
but when I look closely, you vanish

I will spend an eternity looking for you
and yet
I know I will never find you—

HEARTBEATS

Sometimes I think we are meant to be
Sometimes I think the stars form our shape
Sometimes I think that if I hold your heart

I can never lose you
because you’ll always be there
in cells and blood and muscle
the very thing that keeps you alive
beating in my hands

Sometimes I wonder if this time
you’ll say my name
into the deep of night
and hold out your hand
to grasp the part of me that is lost
without you,
echoing through my dreams
climbing the sky
and parting the clouds
to find you
to reach you
your heartbeat under my palm
the brush of your lips on my skin
your hungry gaze on mine, smoldering
and yet
you are cold, so cold
my soul withers under your touch
my heart beats for you
no longer
